Will you #Xthehaze too?

Since I was in Primary school, I remembered that Singapore will experienced days of haze every few years or so. The worst haze I experienced growing up was when I was in Secondary Three and sitting at our school stadiums looking across the field. The PSI reading was about 200+ then and I was sick that day - fever with sore throat.

Two years ago, Singapore experienced the worst haze ever, with PSI peaking at 400+. It was during the June school holiday and Little Brother was only 2+ months old then! Luckily for us then, the hazy period only lasted about three weeks or so (and we were complaining that it was so long!).

This year, everyone of us felt the impact of the prolonged haze! We were trapped at home for not days, but 2 months plus! Masks became a necessity and were out of stocks everywhere! Everyone took turns to fall sick at home due to the haze. We rejoiced where there is one clear day, but it creeps back to our small island again now and then!

It's time we do not take our fresh air for granted, and as consumers, we can start looking actively into the products we buy, to not support businesses that are culprits of burning trees in Indonesia. There seems to be two product lines contributing to the haze - palm oil & paper products.

When i researched on palm oil products, I am shocked! We might not cook with it, but we almost certainly eat or use palm oil daily! Palm oil is the most widely consumed vegetable oil on the planet, and it is in about half of all packaged products sold in the supermarket. Almost 90% of the food we buy, have palm oil in it! I tried to buy food products without palm oil at the supermarket, but really, unless we avoid processed food totally and buy only vegetables or meat, it's almost impossible to avoid it. Chocolates, biscuits etc all have palm oil as ingredients! *shocked*

So the next thing I can proactively look into are the paper products we use at home! And I am happy to share a brand that I got to review!

The Brand Name said it all - No Trees!!

Nootrees is owned and run by the renowned Singapore based F J Benjamin Group, who for more than fifty years have led the field in South East Asia in bringing new ideas and brands to consumers based in this region. The company aims to offer consumers the very best in alternative fibre products, and in doing so help reduce the number of trees that are being cut down each year (just to share, more than 27,000 trees are cut down daily worldwide) just to make toilet paper! Thus they are focused on providing world class bamboo based, 100% sustainable, 100% biodegradable products for both consumers and businesses alike!

Wet wipes are a hugely popular product across the world. But traditional wet wipes, which are very often plastic based are also now creating major problems in water systems across the world from London to Melbourne. These non-biodegradable wipes are one of the worst offending items in our general waste systems today. If flushed in the water system they can create blockage problems. Also being a plastic based product in most cases will not degenerate in the water or land fill waste for some years, if ever.

NooTrees Wet wipes comes in 3 friendly family sizes: Family (80 wipes, $5.95), Travel (25 wipes, $2.00) and Pocket (10 wipes, $1.35) sizes!

Thus here comes a safer alternative that is 100% natural, 100% biodegradable and comes from a environmentally friendly resource. NooTrees wet wipes are made from only 100% bamboo spunlace material. This strong, flexible absorbent material feels comfortable on your hands, face or baby's gentle skin, and is supremely hypoallergenic naturally.

There is a series of SelfSpa 100% Bamboo Treatment wipes: Spa Skin, Age Impact and Aqua Skin, retailing at $8.95 each

The two faced wipe, with one side smooth and another side with eco-dot technology, is perfect to help you look your best for your next meeting, dinner or selfie on the go. Theses bamboo is also supremely hypoallergenic, meaning it is better than other materials for use in contact with your skin! The types of SelfSpa wipes available are:

To be honest, when i opened my first pack of the SelfSpa wipes to use, I was shocked when i see the wipe! My first thought was if the wipes are expired or spoilt! LOL! But when i tried the first piece of wipe, i fell in love with this wipe immediately! I used to use my children's baby wipes for my face too, but now i am won over by this! Highly recommend you to try it out too!
  • The wipe is strong and doesn't tear or goes out of shape easily
  • The dual sided wipes also allow a more effective and thorough cleaning of the face
  • Not just cleansing but also treatment too

Eco-dot Technology means the wipes are literally dotted with gentle raised bumps!

I chanced upon it on the shelves of Giant Hypermarket while marketing! So convenient to get!
