Breastfeeding Made Easy with Philips Avent Breastfeeding Support Kit

I wished i came across this 5 years plus ago before I become a mum. Or rather, if I am a first time mom now, i will be so grateful to receive this as a gift!

I really like how they named this the Breastfeeding Support Kit. Everything that you need to support breastfeeding your precious child is inside this compact box!

I received this Philips Avent Breastfeeding Support Kit SCD292 recently, and the set contains ALL the products needed to: pump, store and feed your breast milk and to take care of your breasts. It's so ideal, especially for first time mom, when you are not sure what you will need and how much to buy. The only other thing that you need is a steriliser, which is not necessary, if you read the FDA guidelines here.

What I like is the amount of things you can take out from this small kit! My previous breastpumps boxes contained more of packaging than actual accessories!

Just so you have a better understanding of what is included in this breastfeeding support kit, inside the box, you'll find:

• Breast pump body: 1 pcs
• Base unit incl. tubing: 1 pcs
• Standard size cushion: 1 pcs
• Natural bottle 4oz: 1 pcs
• Natural bottle 9oz: 1 pcs
• Extra soft Newborn Flow nipple: 1 pcs
• Extra soft Slow Flow nipple: 1 pcs
• Travel cover: 1 pcs
• Sealing disc for milk storage: 1 pcs
• Storage Cup (180 ml / 6oz): 10 pcs
• Milk storage cup lid: 10 pcs
• Milk storage cup adaptor: 2 pcs
• Standard Nipple Protector: 2 pcs
• Disposable day breast pads: 12 pcs
• Disposable night breast pads: 6 pcs
• Guide to breastfeeding DVD: 1 pcs
• Moisturizing Nipple Cream: 15 ml
• Bra clip: 1 pcs

Just to share with you what i really love about this breastpump and breastfeeding support kit:

Simple Settings

When switched on, the pump automatically starts in gentle stimulation mode to get your milk flowing. Then choose from 3 pumping settings to make milk flow most comfortable for you. Settings: available are 3 Expression settings Low, Medium and Hard and 1 Simulation mode.
When you power on, it will be on stimulation mode, you simply have to switch to expression mode when your milk starts letting down. It's not auto switch but I am ok with it because every woman body is different, we let down our milk at different timing too. ;p

Comfortable to Use

If you are new to breastfeeding, let me tell you this is very very important. To be able to breastfeed for long, it's very important to have good posture during breastfeeding or when expressing milk! I like how this Philips Avent Breast Pump is designed so that we can continue to sit in a comfortable position when expressing milk. I do not have to lean forward at all. It's really sit back and relax!

Soft Massage Cushion

I used to love my first breast pump to bits due to it's soft fit massaging shield. But the company has discontinued that shield and in replacement, you can only use the hard plastic which I SUPER HATE. To my very pleasant surprise, this Philips Avent breast pump comes with a soft massage cushion shield! It has a new soft velvety texture that gives a warm feel to the skin for comfortable, gentle stimulation of the milk flow. During expressing, it gently mimics a baby's suckling for natural let down.

clockwise from top left: it comes with a power adapter that requires no extra adapter or conversion for use in SG,  the breast pump unit it, the comfortable massaging soft shield and how it adapts to the bottle.

Pump Direct into Milk Storage Containers
If you have not use the Philips Avent storage containers before, let me tell you how convenient it is! I have been using them to store powdered cereals to be mixed for consumption on the go, I have also stored fresh puree that I have made and freeze them in portions in theses containers! the containers are stackable too, the lids allows you to stack and lock with a click. How i like that with the milk storage cup adapter, you can also easily pump in the milk storage container directly instead of a milk bottle! No more fears of leakage or spillage of my very precious breast milk!

Ease of Use

This Philips Avent Breast pump is very easy to assemble based on intuition. Most importantly, it's really very easy to wash! The pump parts looks complicated, but if you can see from the below pictures, the parts that comes into contact with my breast milk is only a very small part of the funnel which my finger can easily go into to wash it, the white cap which helps the milk flow into the bottle and the bottle itself ok! The milk will never be able to get into contact with the tubing or breast pump itself!
Top and bottom left pictures shows the part from breast pump that you attached to the bottle. right picture shows the part above the bottle which is actually a sealing cap. No milk gets into contact with theses parts at all

Silky Soft Feel

Included in the breastfeeding support kit is this pleasant surprise! in a small purple pouch, you will find a tube of moisturising nipple cream, disposable day and night breast pads! Let me share with you something, not all mothers will have milk leakage problems! You can say I am one of the lucky ones who do not have leakage problems. I always bought boxes of the breast pads for both pregnancy but ended up not using! If i ever use, it was only in the beginning stage which I do not need so many too! I like how considerate this breastfeeding support kit is! You have more than enough to get you started, and if you like to use it or require more, you can always top up later after trying.

the breast pads have a silky topsheet and made with breathable natural materials.

Very Affordable & Value For Money

If only... sigh but it's over! my first breast pump single pump unit costs so much!! and i needed to buy so much extra bottles for storage etc. Best of all, i just found out that this breastpump allows you to use 4 AA batteries instead of plugging into the wall plug! which makes it so friendly for moms who need to pump on the go and for travelling! Currently the Philips Avent Breastfeeding Support Kit is having a promotion and retailing at ONLY SGD229 at various locations and outlets! This is really very value for money as it not only contains the breast pump but inclusive of many other items to support breastfeeding! it also comes with a Breastfeeding DVD guide which is valuable for a new mom to learn more about breastfeeding. I really love how they named this a breastfeeding support kit because the things the kit contains are really here to help you in the breastfeeding journey.

SGD229 for the above and also a purple pouch which includes the nipple cream and disposable day & night breast pads!

There are a few things that are lacking though, i wished they can
  • include a bag for mums who need to bring it out to pump on the go,
  • include a box for microwave safe sterilization of parts.

Then, this pump will be SO PERFECT! I didn't ask for dual pumps, cos i have never like dual pumps. I prefer to have a hand free for multi-tasking, and i always wondered how other women power on and off their dual breast pumps! ;p

In short, to summarize, the Philips Avent Breastfeeding Support Kit covers the following areas:

Express
• More comfortable pumping position due to unique design
• Features a gentle stimulation mode and 3 pumping settings
• Soft massage cushion with warm feel

Store
• For use in fridge/freezer
• Easily pump in milk storage container

Feed
• Natural latch on due to the wide breast shaped nipple
• Unique comfort petals for an extra soft and flexible nipple

Care
• Protect sore nipples during breastfeeding
• Silky soft feel

If you would like to get a gift for a new mom, no harm getting this! Breastfeeding is very natural and should be encourage. :)
