Learning Through Play Date #1

Image
I felt i had been focusing too much on big brother's learning needs and neglecting the little brother. Since his arrival, I mainly took care of little brother's immediate needs like bathing, feeding, changing etc and spent more time helping big brother while the little brother used to nap, then crawled around and now walking around us!
Little brother is 17 months old now and he had been growing so fast! I find it hard to do activities with him simply because whenever i have the time to be alone with him, that means big brother is at school and it's golden time to do household chores, bake, cook, boil water, check mails, blog or rest & relax! The chores keep calling out to me and i can't resist.
Inspired by my Senior, Adeline Tan who blogs at Growing with the Tans, of what she did with her son Noah, I recently sent invitations to two other mums with children born in the same month as little brother, to ask them to join me in my vision of a planned weekly playgroup…

The Things He Said

Big Brother: Look at the black car! (Our car was very dirty, with a lot of dried mud stains)
Me: Ooooh! Yes, what happened to the car?
Big Brother: It is sunburnt already!
Me: (amused by his imagination!) Oh! Haha! Yes it looks like sun burnt!
Big Brother: Because it's too hot under the sun already. Under fire!

Easy Meals: Healthy and Nutritional Pizza that even Children can make

Image
When i was grocery shopping and chanced upon this new Gardenia Wraps, an idea came to my mind! Why not make pizzas for lunch and dinner?
And so we did. :) If only i have think of this earlier, oh it's so easy to prepare and so so so easy to clean up! This is one of the greatest recipe for making life easier for a stay home mama! Pardon the blurry images, it's obvious I have to use my mobile phone to take theses pictures. ;p

To prepare the pizza is so so so easy! You simply cut the ingredients you want to use into smaller pieces! This is one great opportunity to teach the older child cutting skills! And for cutting vegetables, you don't need sharp knifes! A simple bread & butter knife will do!
Because my elder son is a picky eater and he doesn't eat processed food, so it's even better! I get to use my creativity and plan a more nutritional meal for ourselves! The only processed food that we used were pineapples. There is no way I wanna buy a fresh pineapple t…

The Things He Said

There was one day we were running late, and so i wanted to take a shortcut by climbing up a small slope to McDonalds.
Me: Come! Today we climb up the small hill ok? Can you follow me?
K: ok Mummy! But we shouldn't walk on the grass you know? We will hurt the ants!
Me: why we shouldn't walk on the grass.. (was preoccupied with if we will be late for next appointment... then it suddenly dawned on me!) Oh yes!!! You are so right! We might step onto the ants! I like it that you are so kind! (looked at him admirably)
K: ok Mummy! You say Sorry! Next time we don't walk on the grass! Later we might hurt the ants!
My son, this little man who is turning five soon.. has the compassion for the ants! Thumbs up!

Writing : Dot a Art

Image
As I mentioned before, Big brother used to have weak motor skills. To help your child to write, it's important to introduce as many different writing materials to the child.
One of the writing material that I gave to Big Brother is this Dot a Art! It's Easy to gripInteresting and funEasy to write. Colorful.

Start off with dotting, then evolve to drawing, and tracing!

The Groovy Giraffe + Giveaway

Image
Recently I chanced upon another online shopping heaven - The Groovy Giraffe - which is Singapore's first official online children's remainder bookshop. You can expect to buy new books that are overprints and are heavily discounted!

To encourage the Big Brother to learn to read on his own, i had noticed that he prefers only certain books with characters that he is familiar with, like The Backyardigans, Dora & Diego, Peppa Pigs and etc. He is also highly keen in books about monsters and superheroes too! Well, every child needs to own their favorite books before they can pick up the sight words and learn to read on their own, so i had been looking out for and purchasing books of the above genres to encourage him.

From The Groovy Giraffe, I added more interesting books at affordable prices, for Big Brother into our mini home library!

He is into Diego's adventures lately so I was happy to add on one more Diego's book to our collection. Dora's books are very good for…

The Things He Said

When i was driving and stopped at a traffic junction.
K: mommy, why Auntie closed her eyes?
Me: huh? Where?
I looked around and then i realized that a Nippon Van was right beside us and on the van was this advertisement!

Me: haha! It's not an auntie! This is an uncle! He is a man!
K: huh?
Me: yes, he is a very fat man, you know, so fat that's why you thought he is a woman.
K: but why is uncle's eyes closed? What did he do? Why is he blind?
Me: Oh! He didn't closed his eyes! Can't you see he got open his eye? Haha! Uncle is so fat until his eyes become very small.. Uncle is not blind!
Light turned green and I drove on..
K: NOOOO! but uncle is blind! Why he cannot see us?
Me: -_-||| hmmm... oh you see, uncle left already! can we don't talk about him? Mommy is driving, i need to concentrate ok?

Review on Samsung NX3000 Smart Camera

Image
This is for those who asked about my new camera. :)

I had been wanting to get a new camera for a long time, the gadget girl is still very much in me. Just that since I stopped working and have no more income, I had to put off any wants that I have. My children have become my priority.

But it's no harm buying something for myself once in a LONG while right? I am proud to say that I purchase the camera for myself with my own money! I had been saving up whatever negligible income I have from the freelance jobs that I did or things I sell away, so that I can buy a camera that I want! Sounds so pathetic, but well, it's an accomplishment of a Stay Home Mum! Who says a housewife have to all depend on her hubby??

So, for my new toy, I was looking for a camera with an interchangeable lens and must have wifi feature. Best if I can edit photos on the camera itself (which i later found out that Sony and Canon is not able to do that!) and even better if I can take selfies easily! I want to…
